BENO Projectafbouw wins at Saint-Gobain International Gypsum Trophy 2025
At the 14th edition of the Saint-Gobain International Gypsum Trophy, held in Athens, BENO Projectafbouw B.V. was awarded first place in the Business and Institutional category for their exceptional work on the Global Headquarters of Bejo Zaden in Warmenhuizen, the Netherlands.
This biennial competition, organized by Saint-Gobain, celebrates excellence in plasterboard systems and interior finishing. It brings together the most innovative and technically advanced projects from around the world, showcasing the craftsmanship and creativity of contractors using Saint-Gobain solutions.
A showcase of innovation and craftsmanship
The Bejo headquarters project stood out for its architectural elegance, technical complexity, and sustainable design. The building features a striking central atrium, curved walls, and seamless transitions between materials—demonstrating the high level of precision and expertise required during execution.
BENO Projectafbouw, in close collaboration with Gyproc Nederland, delivered a flawless finish using advanced drywall systems that met the project’s demanding acoustic, fire safety, and aesthetic requirements. The result is a modern, inspiring workplace that reflects Bejo’s identity as a global leader in seed innovation.
Challenges and achievements
Key Challenges
- Due to the many curved Metal Stud walls, there were almost no reference points for dimensioning during the construction phase.
- To create invisible transitions between the rounded shapes and the curved Metal Stud walls.
- To create stability in the long and curved hanging walls above the glass walls and doors.
- To smoothly connect the curved mezzanines to the ceilings.
- To mount the rounded slatted ceilings: stable installation on limited height and in same direction throughout the building.
- To meet the shortened installation time due to delay during construction phase.
Key Achievements
- Due to the many curved Metal Stud walls, there were almost no reference points for dimensioning during the construction phase.
A lot of time was invested in the work preparation process for the measuring of every wall. We involved a specialized surveying company who are using specialized measuring equipment to transfer specified positions from the drawings to the construction site. - Create invisible transitions between rounded shapes and curved Metal Stud walls.
The 6 mm boards are mounted ≥ 200 mm overlapping on the straight walls. This creates a smooth transition and finishing. - Create stability in the long and curved hanging walls above glass walls and doors.
- Wooden shanks were used as molds to create the precise rounding, using cnc machines.
- In some positions wooden profiles are mounted in the walls.
- For extra stability, diagonal braces have been placed on the outside.
- The curved mezzanines had to connect smoothly to the ceilings.
By using the AquaBead corners, these connections have become super smooth and straight - Mounting the rounded slatted ceilings: stable installation on limited height and in same direction throughout the building.
The slatted ceilings were mounted onto the walls to create stability. We used the measurements of the specialized surveying company to determine and define the equal slats angle and direction throughout the building. - Shortened installation time due to delay during construction phase.
BENO managed to pick-up building time by creating an additional building team and a parallel workflow.
Sustainability in the project
An advanced technical installation for efficient energy generation and regeneration was created for heating, cooling and ventilation. Resulting in a substantial decrease in energy consumption and CO₂ emission.
In the heart of the building an open 180 meters deep well was created as energy source and lifeline of the building.
‘Green Roof’: the roof is covered with sedum succulents.
Sedum converts CO₂ into oxygen, absorbs particulate matter and is also nectar-rich and therefore provides food for all kinds of insects.

Competing against 17 other finalists from 17 countries, BENO Projectafbouw’s achievement highlights the strength of Dutch craftsmanship and the value of collaboration within the Saint-Gobain Group. This award not only honors their technical excellence but also reinforces Saint-Gobain’s commitment to building better for people and the planet.
