Saint-Gobain’s Sustainable Construction Talk, held on February 6 at Brussels Expo during Futurebuild, brought together industry professionals for a session focused on tools and methodologies shaping the sector’s future. On the agenda: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental and Health Declarations (FDES), TOTEM, and BREEAM — all essential instruments for measuring the environmental impact of construction projects and maximizing their contribution to a sustainable future.

• Oraé glass

• Lightweight tile adhesives

• 3D-printed concrete solutions, reducing CO₂ emissions by 40–60% compared to traditional construction methods

“We aim to be a catalyst in the sector’s sustainable transition,” added Richard Juggery, highlighting that cooperation, innovation, and knowledge-sharing will be key to shaping a more sustainable construction industry.

Environmental Impact of Construction: A Key Challenge

With over one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 40% of natural resource consumption linked to construction, rethinking the way we build is a necessity.

At the event, Luc Eeckhout, architect and professor at KU Leuven, emphasized the importance of LCA in standardizing environmental impact assessments and fostering collaboration across all industry stakeholders. A unified tool is crucial to accelerating the shift toward sustainable and responsible construction.

Saint-Gobain embraces this responsibility by promoting circular resource management and using LCA to guide the sector toward more sustainable choices.
