IKC De Twijn: a sustainable and collaborative school concept for the future
Saint-Gobain Benelux is proud to be part of the innovative IKC De Twijn project in Alblasserdam – a movement-oriented primary school designed with a strong focus on sustainability, health and future-proof construction. This cross-BU collaboration highlights how our combined expertise contributes to Making the world a better home.
A movement-oriented school built for well-being
IKC De Twijn, also known as Beweegschool De Twijn, is more than just a primary school. It is a space where physical activity, accessibility and learning go hand in hand. The design called for materials that enhance acoustics, indoor climate and energy efficiency, while supporting a durable and low-maintenance building concept.
Cross-BU collaboration: one vision, many solutions
Several Saint-Gobain brands worked together on this project, each delivering products tailored to specific technical needs. A clear example of how internal collaboration strengthens outcomes:
Ecophon
To support calm and focused learning in a dynamic school environment, Ecophon supplied ceiling systems from its Gedina™ and Master™ ranges, ensuring optimal acoustic comfort throughout the building.
Gyproc
To meet durability, moisture resistance and fire safety requirements, Gyproc provided a range of plasterboard and lining solutions, ensuring a solid and low-maintenance interior finish.
Isover
Isover delivered thermal and acoustic insulation solutions for both the building envelope and technical installations, supporting a healthy and energy-efficient indoor environment.
Glass
Saint-Gobain Glass contributed high-performance triple glazing, enhancing natural light and ensuring thermal comfort in all seasons.
Weber
To streamline construction and enhance durability, Weber provided its full-bed mortar, known for combining masonry and jointing in a single step. This solution reduces labor time and ensures consistent joint quality, contributing to the building's longevity and aesthetic appeal.
A reference project for sustainable education design
IKC De Twijn is a strong example of how integrated Saint-Gobain solutions can support the development of healthy, energy-efficient and future-ready learning environments. By combining expertise from multiple brands, the project demonstrates the added value of a coordinated approach to performance, comfort and sustainability.
For architects and developers looking to design educational buildings that meet today's functional demands and tomorrow’s environmental standards, IKC De Twijn offers a clear benchmark in both concept and execution.
